A strategic roadmap designed to ensure Point Edward remains a vibrant, sustainable, progressively independent and family-oriented community for generations to come.
Protect the Village’s Financial Future

Maintain strong financial oversight and responsible budgeting while preparing for changes to the Village’s revenue base.

  • Monitor the continued shift from bricks-and-mortar casino gaming to online gaming and its potential impact on municipal revenue sharing.

  • Develop financial scenarios and contingency plans so the Village is prepared for potential reductions in revenue rather than reacting after they occur.

  • Continue to look for efficiencies and increased value from municipal spending.

  • Align budget deliberations more closely with the budget year to improve planning and accountability.

  • Protect the Village’s reserves and long-term financial stability while continuing to invest in essential services.

  • Ensure that the Village is searching out all grant opportunities to assist with capital budgets and infrastructure.

Get Vacant Properties Working for Point Edward

Proactively work with property owners and developers to turn vacant and underutilized properties into productive assets.

  • Continue meeting with property owners and developers to understand their plans and help them navigate the municipal approval process.

  • Encourage and support responsible development that increases the Village’s population, expands the tax base and brings new investment.

  • Move forward with proposals for the downtown core and ensure vacant properties are developed in ways that support the waterfront, attract tourists and bring more residents, businesses and activity into the Village.

  • Work collaboratively with developers to identify obstacles early and find solutions while protecting the character and long-term interests of Point Edward.

  • Pursue opportunities to redevelop brownfield and other challenging properties where appropriate.

Development should not happen to Point Edward — it should happen with Point Edward.

Strengthen Our Waterfront,  Downtown & Business Areas

Make better use of Point Edward’s unique waterfront, downtown and commercial areas.

  • Develop a clear vision for the waterfront and downtown that connects tourism, recreation, business and residential development.

  • Encourage investment along Michigan Avenue, Kendall Avenue and the Lite/Helena Street areas.

  • Support projects that increase pedestrian activity and encourage visitors to stay longer and residents to spend more time in our commercial areas.

  • Look for opportunities to better connect the waterfront with the downtown core.

Support Emergency Services & First Responders

Ensure the people who protect Point Edward have the tools, facilities, training and support they need.

  • Continue supporting Point Edward Fire & Rescue and other emergency service providers.

  • Ensure capital planning properly considers the equipment and facility needs of our first responders.

  • Work collaboratively with neighbouring emergency services and other agencies where cooperation can improve service and response to emergencies.

  • Recognize that well-trained, properly equipped first responders are an investment in the safety and resilience of our entire community.

Build One of Lambton County’s Best Municipal Workplaces

Work with the CAO to support a strong, professional and positive municipal workplace.

  • Support staff development and continuing education.

  • Encourage management and leadership training.

  • Establish clear organizational direction and expectations.

  • Support appropriate performance management and employee development.

  • Ensure staff have the tools, resources and communication they need to succeed.

  • Work with the CAO to foster a workplace where employees feel valued, respected and supported.

When municipal staff are set up for success, residents receive better service.

Make Point Edward More Proactive

Move from reacting to issues as they arise to anticipating challenges and opportunities before they become problems.

  • Complete and implement a meaningful Village Strategic Plan that establishes clear priorities and helps guide Council decisions.

  • Use strategic planning to connect budgets, infrastructure investments, development and municipal services to long-term objectives.

  • Establish measurable priorities and regularly report on progress.

  • Identify emerging financial, infrastructure and operational risks before they become urgent.

  • Encourage Council and staff to bring forward solutions and options rather than simply responding to problems.

Invest in Infrastructure & Protect Our Assets

Plan infrastructure investments strategically and ensure projects are properly managed.

  • Develop long-term capital plans that prioritize infrastructure based on need, risk and available resources.

  • Strengthen project oversight and accountability for major municipal projects.

  • Ensure the Village has appropriate project management expertise when undertaking complex or high-value projects.

  • Protect the significant investments residents have already made in roads, water, sewer, buildings, parks and other municipal assets.

  • Look for solutions that provide the greatest benefit across departments and maximize the Village’s return on investment.

Improve Communication, Transparency & Accountability

Residents should know what their municipality is doing, why decisions are being made and how their tax dollars are being used.

  • Continue improving outbound communication through email and social media.

  • Modernize the Village website to make information easier to find and understand.

  • Improve public reporting on major projects, budgets and Council priorities.

  • Communicate decisions clearly — including the reasons behind them.

  • Continue to ensure residents have meaningful opportunities to be heard.

  • Hold Council accountable for following through on commitments.

Build a Strong, Collaborative Council

Council should be a team that can debate issues openly while working together to serve the community.

  • Encourage healthy debate and different perspectives.

  • Focus discussions on solutions rather than personalities.

  • Ensure residents' concerns are heard and considered.

  • Build relationships based on mutual respect among Council members.

  • Conduct a collaborative and transparent annual CAO performance review with input from all of Council and key stakeholders.

  • Once Council makes a decision, work together to implement it effectively.

  • Maintain a clear distinction between Council's role and the CAO's responsibility for municipal administration and staff management.

A strong Council doesn't have to agree on everything. It needs to know how to work together.

Prepare Point Edward for Our Next 150 Years

With the Village approaching its 150th anniversary in 2028, use the milestone as an opportunity to celebrate our history while planning for our future.

  • Celebrate the people, businesses, organizations and families that built Point Edward.

  • Engage residents in the 150th anniversary planning.

  • Use the anniversary to showcase Point Edward to visitors and neighbouring communities.

  • Connect the celebration to a broader conversation about what we want Point Edward to look like for the next generation.

  • Ensure our history remains part of our identity while continuing to embrace responsible growth and change.
